Anaconda Copper Mine (Nevada) - History

History

The Anaconda Mine first opened in 1918 as the Empire Nevada Mine. In 1953 the property was acquired by the Anaconda Copper Company, which ran the mine until Anaconda was taken over by Atlantic Richfield Company. Atlantic Richfield ceased operations in 1978 due to a low copper prices, lower priced foreign imports of copper and declining grade and resources in the pit. The property was sold in 1982 to Don Tibbals, a Lyon County commissioner. The land was subsequently resold to Arimetco, with the exception of Weed Heights.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

It takes a great deal of history to produce a little literature.
    Henry James (1843–1916)

I am ashamed to see what a shallow village tale our so-called History is. How many times must we say Rome, and Paris, and Constantinople! What does Rome know of rat and lizard? What are Olympiads and Consulates to these neighboring systems of being? Nay, what food or experience or succor have they for the Esquimaux seal-hunter, or the Kanaka in his canoe, for the fisherman, the stevedore, the porter?
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

This is the greatest week in the history of the world since the Creation, because as a result of what happened in this week, the world is bigger, infinitely.
    Richard M. Nixon (1913–1995)
