American Share Insurance (ASI) is a privately held deposit guaranty corporation that insures shares (deposits) in some state chartered credit unions. ASI was established in 1974 as the National Guaranty Insurance Fund, changing its name to American Share Insurance in the early 1990s. ASI is the largest privately owned insurance corporation for credit unions.
Credit unions carrying ASI’s private insurance must state that funds deposited in the credit union are insured by a private organization, and that the United States Government does not guarantee accounts in that particular credit union.
ASI also offers Excess Share Insurance to subscribing state and Federal credit unions which protects member share accounts from $100,000 to $250,000. This product is used by credit unions which have National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF) insurance on the base $250,000 guaranteed by that fund.
ASI is headquartered in Dublin, Ohio.
Famous quotes containing the words american, share and/or insurance:
“In the American metaphysic, reality is always material reality, hard, resistant, unformed, impenetrable, and unpleasant.”
—Lionel Trilling (19051975)
“Men with secrets tend to be drawn to each other, not because they want to share what they know but because they need the company of the like-minded, the fellow afflicted.”
—Don Delillo (b. 1926)
“Women hock their jewels and their husbands insurance policies to acquire an unaccustomed shade in hair or crêpe de chine. Why then is it that when anyone commits anything novel in the arts he should be always greeted by this same peevish howl of pain and surprise? One is led to suspect that the interest people show in these much talked of commodities, painting, music, and writing, cannot be very deep or very genuine when they so wince under an unexpected impact.”
—John Dos Passos (18961970)
