American School of Kuwait - History

History

In 1963 a group of American parents began the process of forming a new international school modeled after the "authentic American educational plan." This new school's first term began in September 1964 in the Dasman Area of Sharq, Kuwait as the International School of Kuwait with an official ceremony on November 5, 1964.

In 1969 the school moved to improved facilities in Surra, Kuwait. Eventually, an elementary-only campus was established in Salwa, Kuwait; the Surra campus remained for middle and high school students only. Enrollment increased, and the ministry of Kuwait requested that it change its name to the "American School of Kuwait." Twenty-four years later, in 1995, both ASK campuses, the Surra and Salwa campuses, moved again to a new campus in the Hawalli area, reuniting the elementary, middle, and high school students in one campus.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

To a surprising extent the war-lords in shining armour, the apostles of the martial virtues, tend not to die fighting when the time comes. History is full of ignominious getaways by the great and famous.
    George Orwell (1903–1950)

In the history of the human mind, these glowing and ruddy fables precede the noonday thoughts of men, as Aurora the sun’s rays. The matutine intellect of the poet, keeping in advance of the glare of philosophy, always dwells in this auroral atmosphere.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

The history of any nation follows an undulatory course. In the trough of the wave we find more or less complete anarchy; but the crest is not more or less complete Utopia, but only, at best, a tolerably humane, partially free and fairly just society that invariably carries within itself the seeds of its own decadence.
    Aldous Huxley (1894–1963)
