American Poet (album)

American Poet (album)

American Poet is an album of an early solo concert by Lou Reed, recorded live at the Hempstead Theatre, New York on Boxing Day- 26 December 1972 during the Transformer tour. The backing band are The Tots. It features material from that album, The Velvet Underground, his 1972 solo debut Lou Reed. The version of "Berlin" is from that debut album. American Poet was released in 2001. It had previously been released as a bootleg recording.

The album's cover photo is by Mick Rock, evidently from the same shoot that yielded the Transformer cover.

Famous quotes containing the words american and/or poet:

It is always dangerous to generalise, but the American people, while infinitely generous, are a hard and strong race and, but for the few cemeteries I have seen, I am inclined to think they never die.
    Margot Asquith (1864–1945)

Mr. [Christopher] Smart the poet was here yesterday.... This ingenious writer is one of the most unfortunate of men—he has been twice confined in a mad house.... How great a pity so clever, so ingenious a man should be reduced to such shocking circumstances. He is extremely grave, and has still great wildness in his manner, looks and voice—’tis impossible to see him and to think of his works, without feeling the utmost pity and concern for him.
    Frances Burney (1752–1840)
