American League West

The American League West is one of three divisions in Major League Baseball's American League. The division will have five teams in the upcoming 2013 season, but had four teams from 1994 to 2012, and had as many as seven teams before the 1994 realignment. Although its teams currently only reside along the west coast and in Texas, historically the division has had teams as far east as Chicago. In the 1994–2012 period, it was the only MLB division with only four teams. The current champion of this division is the Oakland Athletics. In November 2011, the Houston Astros were reported by MLB as moving to the division from the National League Central for the 2013 season. This gives all six MLB divisions an equal five teams.

Stereotypes fall in the face of humanity. You toodle along, thinking that all gay men wear leather after dark and should never, ever be permitted around a Little League field. And then one day your best friend from college, the one your kids adore, comes out to you.
    Anna Quindlen (b. 1952)

I ... have never been able to find out precisely what feminism is. I only know that people call me a feminist when I express sentiments that differentiate me from a doormat, or a prostitute.
    —Rebecca West (1892–1983)
