Hollywood Week
The Hollywood rounds were held at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles. The first round consisted of solo performances with each contestant choosing a song out of the twelve available. 99 contestants made it to the next round for the group performances. Those who did not impress the judges were cut, and the remaining then performed a solo a cappella. After this round, the contestants were separated into 4 groups, and 3 groups went though with 44 contestants chosen. In the Pasadena Civic Center, each were individually taken via elevator to the judges where the verdict if they would be chosen or not was announced. 20 were cut and the final 24, 12 men and 12 woman, selected.

Famous quotes containing the words hollywood and/or week:
“To say I accept in an age like our own is to say that you accept concentration-camps, rubber truncheons, Hitler, Stalin, bombs, aeroplanes, tinned food, machine guns, putsches, purges, slogans, Bedaux belts, gas-masks, submarines, spies, provocateurs, press-censorship, secret prisons, aspirins, Hollywood films and political murder.”
—George Orwell (19031950)
“The press, that goiter of the world, swells up with the desire for conquest and bursts with the achievements which every day brings. A week has room for the boldest climax of the human drive for expansion.”
