Description
Established in 1945, the AHC currently holds approximately 75,000 cubic feet (roughly 15 miles) of collection material and 55,000 rare books. The AHC serves 6-7,000 researchers each year. It provides a limited number of small travel grants to researchers outside SE Wyoming, and administers a unique Innovative Teaching and Research grant program that provides funds to UW faculty wishing to develop new courses based on AHC primary sources. The AHC is particularly proud of its active outreach and service to undergraduates and students in grades 6-12. The Center also administer's the state's History Day program.
The University's rare book center is the Toppan Library at the American Heritage Center. The history of the book, from medieval manuscripts to modern printed books and other kinds of books in 21st century is documented in the collections.

Famous quotes containing the word description:
“The next Augustan age will dawn on the other side of the Atlantic. There will, perhaps, be a Thucydides at Boston, a Xenophon at New York, and, in time, a Virgil at Mexico, and a Newton at Peru. At last, some curious traveller from Lima will visit England and give a description of the ruins of St Pauls, like the editions of Balbec and Palmyra.”
—Horace Walpole (17171797)
“Everything to which we concede existence is a posit from the standpoint of a description of the theory-building process, and simultaneously real from the standpoint of the theory that is being built. Nor let us look down on the standpoint of the theory as make-believe; for we can never do better than occupy the standpoint of some theory or other, the best we can muster at the time.”
—Willard Van Orman Quine (b. 1908)
“A sound mind in a sound body, is a short, but full description of a happy state in this World: he that has these two, has little more to wish for; and he that wants either of them, will be little the better for anything else.”
—John Locke (16321704)
