American Handicap

The American Handicap is an American Thoroughbred horse race run annually near the end of June at Hollywood Park Racetrack in Inglewood, California. The race is open to horses, age three and up, willing to race one and one-eighth miles on the turf.

A Grade II event, it carries a purse of $250,000.

South African import Colorado King equalled the world record for 1⅛ miles in winning the 1964 edition.

In 2011, the distance was shortened to one mile from nine furlongs.
