The American Association of Orthodontists, or AAO, is the American professional association for orthodontists. Most American orthodontists, about 95 percent, are members. All orthodontists are dentists and may simultaneously hold membership in the American Dental Association.
Orthodontists are dental specialists in the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of orthodontic problems who have completed a minimum of two academic years of study in an accredited orthodontic residency program. Only those dentists who have completed this training may call themselves "orthodontists," and only orthodontists may be members of the American Association of Orthodontists.
Its headquarters are in Creve Coeur, Missouri, near St. Louis.
AAO is affiliated with the Canadian Association of Orthodontists.
Famous quotes containing the words american and/or association:
“It is always dangerous to generalise, but the American people, while infinitely generous, are a hard and strong race and, but for the few cemeteries I have seen, I am inclined to think they never die.”
—Margot Asquith (18641945)
“... a Christian has neither more nor less rights in our association than an atheist. When our platform becomes too narrow for people of all creeds and of no creeds, I myself cannot stand upon it.”
—Susan B. Anthony (18201906)
