Amazing Grace is a 1972 live album by Aretha Franklin. It ultimately sold over two million copies in the United States alone, earning a Double Platinum certification.

As of 2012 it is still the biggest selling disc of Aretha's entire fifty-plus year recording career. The double album was recorded at the New Temple Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles during January 1972. It won the 1972 Grammy Award for Best Soul Gospel Performance. The LP is the biggest selling pure gospel album of all time.

A film documenting the making of the album was set to be released in 1972, but was shelved by Warner Bros. Amazing Grace was remastered and re-released in 1999 as two-Compact Disc set with many unreleased takes.

Famous quotes containing the words amazing, grace and/or franklin:

Men are the enemies of women. Promising sublime intimacy, unequalled passion, amazing security and grace, they nevertheless exploit and injure in a myriad subtle ways. Without men the world would be a better place: softer, kinder, more loving; calmer, quieter, more humane.
    Ann Oakley (b. 1944)

Angels and ministers of grace defend us!
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

If you teach a poor young man to shave himself, and keep his razor in order, you may contribute more to the happiness of his life than in giving him a thousand guineas. This sum may be soon spent, the regret only remaining of having foolishly consumed it; but in the other case, he escapes the frequent vexation of waiting for barbers, and of their sometimes dirty fingers, offensive breaths, and dull razors.
    —Benjamin Franklin (1706–1790)
