Alton Baker Park

Alton Baker Park is located in Eugene, Oregon, United States, near Autzen Stadium. It was named for Register-Guard founder Alton F. Baker, Sr. It features duck ponds, bicycle trails, and a dog park, and directly touches the Ferry Street Bridge across the Willamette River.

Other amenities include the Cuthbert Amphitheater for outdoor musical and drama performances.

The park also features a model, in 1:1 billionth scale, of the sun and inner planets of our solar system. Though some planets (Saturn, Pluto and Neptune) had been stolen (most likely via hammer and chisel), they were replaced in a revamped solar system layout.

Famous quotes containing the words baker and/or park:

All of the valuable qualities ... like helping in the development of others—will not get you to the top at General Motors, were that path open to women.... The characteristics most highly developed in women and perhaps most essential to human beings are the very characteristics that are specifically dysfunctional for success in the world as it is.... They may, however, be the important ones for making the world different.
    —Jean Baker Miller (20th century)

Linnæus, setting out for Lapland, surveys his “comb” and “spare shirt,” “leathern breeches” and “gauze cap to keep off gnats,” with as much complacency as Bonaparte a park of artillery for the Russian campaign. The quiet bravery of the man is admirable.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
