Alonzo Cook - Initial Career

Initial Career

Alonso Cook's early jobs included serving as a probate judge in the Idaho Territory, working as an attorney for the state of Washington, and also practicing as a physician. While in Vancouver, Washington, the Cook family resided briefly in the historic Charles Brown House, built in 1866, possibly by Alonzo himself. The unique French Second Empire type architecture of the house suggests Alonzo may have built it since this type of construction typically hails from where Alonzo came from, the east coast. French Second Empire architecture is rare on the west coast.

Famous quotes containing the words initial and/or career:

No punishment has ever possessed enough power of deterrence to prevent the commission of crimes. On the contrary, whatever the punishment, once a specific crime has appeared for the first time, its reappearance is more likely than its initial emergence could ever have been.
    Hannah Arendt (1906–1975)

Whether lawyer, politician or executive, the American who knows what’s good for his career seeks an institutional rather than an individual identity. He becomes the man from NBC or IBM. The institutional imprint furnishes him with pension, meaning, proofs of existence. A man without a company name is a man without a country.
    Lewis H. Lapham (b. 1935)
