Famous quotes containing the words central, catholic, high and/or school:

    The central problem of novel-writing is causality.
    Jorge Luis Borges (1899–1986)

    Carlyle is not a seer, but a brave looker-on and reviewer; not the most free and catholic observer of men and events, for they are likely to find him preoccupied, but unexpectedly free and catholic when they fall within the focus of his lens.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

    Gifts of one loved me,—
    ‘T was high time they came;
    When he ceased to love me,
    Time they stopped for shame.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

    And so they have left us feeling tired and old.
    They never cared for school anyway.
    And they have left us with the things pinned on the bulletin board.
    And the night, the endless, muggy night that is invading our school.
    John Ashbery (b. 1927)
