Alien Boy

Alien Boy was the 7th song on the Wipers first album, Is This Real? Park Ave records, released in 1979.

Alien Boy is also a 1980 EP with this track on side A, and 3 outtakes from the Is This Real? album sessions on side B. The EP was originally released without the band's authority or knowledge. In 1993 the tracks were added to the Sub Pop re-issue of the album Is This Real?. The Alien Boy EP-cover art featured on the back of the Sub Pop version of Is This Real? is not the original, but the cover art of the German version of the Alien Boy EP released in 1987 on the label Weird System, a special limited edition of 2,000 numbered copies on green vinyl.

According to Greg Sage, writing on the Zeno Records web site, James Chasse, also called Jim Jim was the subject of Alien Boy. "Jim Jim's conversations with me and his powerful sense of vision painted uncanny, powerful visions in my head that became a huge influence for a few songs that were later recorded for the Is This Real? LP." Chasse was murdered by police officers in Portland, Oregon in September 2006, and he is the subject of an upcoming documentary film, Alien Boy: the Life and Death of James Chasse.

Famous quotes containing the words alien and/or boy:

The Jew is neither a newcomer nor an alien in this country or on this continent; his Americanism is as original and ancient as that of any race or people with the exception of the American Indian and other aborigines. He came in the caravels of Columbus, and he knocked at the gates of New Amsterdam only thirty-five years after the Pilgrim Fathers stepped ashore on Plymouth Rock.
    Oscar Solomon Straus (1850–1926)

The truth is, this being errand boy to one hundred and fifty thousand people tires me so by night I am ready for bed instead of soirees.
    Rutherford Birchard Hayes (1822–1893)
