Ali Mall - History

History

Construction on the mall began in 1975 after Muhammad Ali's boxing victory between Joe Frazier in Araneta Coliseum. The Ali-Frazier fight was called "Thrilla in Manila". In the 1970s, there were no malls in the entire country, so Ali addressed a speech to the Philippines to build a shopping mall near the Big Dome in honor of his victory, a shopping mall with a floor area of 62,000 sq.m. In the 1980s, the mall has been undergoing expansions and renovations since its construction. In 2009, an expansion to Ali Mall was opened.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

What we call National-Socialism is the poisonous perversion of ideas which have a long history in German intellectual life.
    Thomas Mann (1875–1955)

Let us not underrate the value of a fact; it will one day flower in a truth. It is astonishing how few facts of importance are added in a century to the natural history of any animal. The natural history of man himself is still being gradually written.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Throughout the history of commercial life nobody has ever quite liked the commission man. His function is too vague, his presence always seems one too many, his profit looks too easy, and even when you admit that he has a necessary function, you feel that this function is, as it were, a personification of something that in an ethical society would not need to exist. If people could deal with one another honestly, they would not need agents.
    Raymond Chandler (1888–1959)
