In 1954 he received (with Robert Gross and Helen Taussig) the Albert Lasker Clinical Medical Research Award "For distinguished contributions to cardiovascular surgery and knowledge."
The Alfred Blalock Clinical Sciences Building at Hopkins Hospital is named for him.
