Alexandra College Today
A wide range of subjects is available to study. The school crest reflects this, featuring a cross with a book, a ball, a lyre and a palette in its corners. The school was greatly benefited in 2004 with the opening of the Milltown Luas stop at the back gate of the college.
In the senior school, 1st-3rd years wear the traditional brown uniform, while 4th years wear a tracksuit which helps them do more activities as they are normally 'outdoor' based. however this will discontinue in 2013 and the 4th year girls will continue wearing the brown uniform for that year. 5th and 6th year students do not wear the school uniform; they must however wear clothes suitable for school; this is meant to promote the girls' individuality. For one day in 6th year the girls put back on their brown uniforms, this is for the summer funday which has become a tradition in the school as fundays are 'non-uniform' days with themes. This day is generally just before graduation.

Famous quotes containing the words college and/or today:
“The mode of founding a college is, commonly, to get up a subscription of dollars and cents, and then, following blindly the principles of a division of labor to its extreme,a principle which should never be followed but with circumspection,to call in a contractor who makes this a subject of speculation,... and for these oversights successive generations have to pay.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“There was a time when the average reader read a novel simply for the moral he could get out of it, and however naïve that may have been, it was a good deal less naïve than some of the limited objectives he has now. Today novels are considered to be entirely concerned with the social or economic or psychological forces that they will by necessity exhibit, or with those details of daily life that are for the good novelist only means to some deeper end.”
—Flannery OConnor (19251964)
