Educator
When Ely returned to Brazil in 1965, he taught English for seven years. He also wrote two English textbooks, A New Approach to English and Intermediate Course. After returning to the U.S., he earned a master’s degree from Temple University in English Education before becoming a teacher first at Cardinal Dougherty High School then Archbishop Prendergast High School.
Ely also wrote the novel Destiny at Dawn.
Ely was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame and the Eastern Pennsylvania Soccer Hall of Fame in 1997.
