Alcohol Laws of Kansas - Underage Drinking in Kansas

Underage Drinking in Kansas

In response to the National Minimum Drinking Age Act in 1984, which reduced by 10% the federal highway funding of any state which did not have a minimum drinking age of 21, the Kansas Legislature raised the drinking age from 18 to 21, effective January 1, 1985. Persons under 21 are prohibited from purchasing or possessing alcohol, from consuming alcohol for anything other than religious or prescribed medicinal purposes, or from having a blood alcohol level of more than .02%. There is exception for parents wishing to provide their own child alcohol under K.S.A. 41-7274(e).
