Albert Merlin was a founder in 1969, then the president, from 1975 to 1979, of the French Association of Business Economists (AFEDE). Then he developed AFEDE's international activities which led him to create, then preside over the European Federation of Business Economists (Eurofabe) which brought together French, British, German, Italian and other European economists.

Alumnus of IMD (International Institute for management development, in Lausanne, Switzerland), Albert was also active in teaching, first as an associate professor at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales then at ENA (Ecole Nationale d'Administration) France's state school for training senior government officials. He was subsequently a Professor of Business Economics at Sciences Po from 1986 to 1990.

After serving from 1980 to 1982 on France's Conseil Economique et social (where government, business and labour leaders discuss key issues), Albert was elected president of the Société d'Economie Politique (founded in 1842) France'society of distinguished academics and corporate economists.

Famous quotes containing the words early, economic and/or career:

They circumcised women, little girls, in Jesus’s time. Did he know? Did the subject anger or embarrass him? Did the early church erase the record? Jesus himself was circumcised; perhaps he thought only the cutting done to him was done to women, and therefore, since he survived, it was all right.
    Alice Walker (b. 1944)

I believe that history has shape, order, and meaning; that exceptional men, as much as economic forces, produce change; and that passé abstractions like beauty, nobility, and greatness have a shifting but continuing validity.
    Camille Paglia (b. 1947)

Clearly, society has a tremendous stake in insisting on a woman’s natural fitness for the career of mother: the alternatives are all too expensive.
    Ann Oakley (b. 1944)
