Albany Twilight League

The Albany Twilight League, based at Bleecker Stadium in Albany, NY, is an amateur baseball league that was founded in 1930 by George Elwell. Two former Major Leaguers, Matty Fitzgerald and Ed Phelps, along with James Ronin and William Louden, were all members of the first league commission. Claude Tibbitts became president of the league in 1931, which is when it began its first competitive season. The league consisted of 10 teams at that time. The Legendary Schuylers, managed by Charlie Callahan, were the first league champions.

Currently, the league president is Bill Miles. Bruce Barkevich is the vice president, Steve Heiser is Secretary and Joe Altieri is the Treasurer/Public Relations Coordinator.

Several Major League Baseball players have played in the Albany Twilight League. Billy Harrell, Gary Holle, Dan Peltier, Hipólito Peña, John Cerutti, Glen Barker, Tony Fossas and Mickey Brantley all played in the league at one point. Minor leaguers Chris Salamida and Doug Drumm played in the league as well.

The Haack division is named after Henry Haack, longtime officer of the league who is now in the league's Hall of Fame. The Tholl division is named after Joe Tholl, a one-time president of the league who is now in the league's Hall of Fame. Since 1998, the following teams have won league championships: Albany Athletics - 5 times (also 9-time State Championship) Albany Senators - 1 time (also won 1 State Championship) All Stars Academy - 3 times (also won 1 State Championship) Davies AC - 2 times (also won 1 State Championship) Troy Haymakers - 1 time The league has hosted several AABC Upper NYS and North Atlantic Regional Tournaments. Three teams from the league have reached the Stan Musial World Series since 1921: Albany Athletics (2010), Apex Printing (1989), Sons of Italy (1973).
