Alan Hinkes OBE (born 26 April 1954) is an English mountaineer from Northallerton in North Yorkshire. Hinkes is the first British mountaineer to have summited all 14 mountains with elevations greater than 8000 metres, the so-called Eight-thousanders; however, this claim is disputed.
He was awarded an Honorary Fellowship of the University of Sunderland in 1999, and an Honorary Doctorate from the University of York in 2007.
In 2011, Alan teamed up with UK tours operator Best of Britain Holidays to lead the 3 Peaks Challenge UK Tour.
Alan gave out awards with Gemma Merna at Kirkby Suite for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme in 2009
