Art Collection At "The Farm"

Gibbs is also one of New Zealand's leading art collectors, and since 1991 has been establishing a sprawling 1,000-acre (4.0 km2) sculpture park at Gibbs Farm, which is located on New Zealand's North Island, 50 km north of Auckland in the Kaipara District. Among the art works installed on The Farm are monumental pieces by contemporary artists including Daniel Buren, Neil Dawson, Andy Goldsworthy, Anish Kapoor, George Rickey, Richard Serra and Bernar Venet.

Famous quotes containing the words art, collection and/or farm:

Our art is the finest, the noblest, the most suggestive, for it is the synthesis of all the arts. Sculpture, painting, literature, elocution, architecture, and music are its natural tools. But while it needs all of those artistic manifestations in order to be its whole self, it asks of its priest or priestess one indispensable virtue: “faith.”
    Sarah Bernhardt (1845–1923)

What is all wisdom save a collection of platitudes? Take fifty of our current proverbial sayings—they are so trite, so threadbare, that we can hardly bring our lips to utter them. None the less they embody the concentrated experience of the race and the man who orders his life according to their teaching cannot go far wrong.
    Norman Douglas (1868–1952)

What is a farm but a mute gospel? The chaff and the wheat, weeds and plants, blight, rain, insects, sun—it is a sacred emblem from the first furrow of spring to the last stack which the snow of winter overtakes in the fields.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
