In 1955 he married Eileen Hughes, a member of a prominent Catholic family in Fremantle—her brother is car dealer John Hughes. She and Bond were both 17 and she was pregnant at the time. Bond converted to Catholicism after the marriage. The couple had four children: John, Craig, Susanne and Jody. Bond and Eileen divorced in 1992. Susanne died in 2000 from a suspected accidental overdose of prescription medication. She was an equestrian showjumper who was a member of the Australian showjumping team for seven years.
In 1995 Bond married Diana Bliss, a public relations consultant and theatre producer. On 28 January 2012, Bliss was found dead in the couple's swimming pool. Police said the circumstances surrounding her death were not suspicious. Confirmation emerged that Bliss, a longtime sufferer of depression, had committed suicide.

Famous quotes containing the word family:
“Female Virtues are of a Domestick turn. The Family is the proper Province for Private Women to Shine in. If they must be showing their Zeal for the Publick, let it not be against those who are perhaps of the same Family, or at least of the same Religion or Nation, but against those who are the open, professed, undoubted Enemies of their Faith, Liberty, and Country.”
—Joseph Addison (16721719)
“Though a family be a thousand, there can be only one in charge.”
—Chinese proverb.
“In the years of the Roman Republic, before the Christian era, Roman education was meant to produce those character traits that would make the ideal family man. Children were taught primarily to be good to their families. To revere gods, ones parents, and the laws of the state were the primary lessons for Roman boys. Cicero described the goal of their child rearing as self- control, combined with dutiful affection to parents, and kindliness to kindred.”
—C. John Sommerville (20th century)
