Alabama State Route 48 - History

History

The original routing of State Route 48 is quite different from the route that it has today. When the route was created in 1940, it ran from Pell City to the Georgia state line east, rather than northeast, of Wedowee. That route has now been replaced by State Route 34 from Pell City to Talladega, State Route 77 from Talladega to Ashland, and State Route 9 from Ashland to Lineville. The old section of State Route 48 east of Wedowee is now designated as Randolph County Road 56.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

Bias, point of view, fury—are they ... so dangerous and must they be ironed out of history, the hills flattened and the contours leveled? The professors talk ... about passion and point of view in history as a Calvinist talks about sin in the bedroom.
    Catherine Drinker Bowen (1897–1973)

It is remarkable how closely the history of the apple tree is connected with that of man.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Perhaps universal history is the history of the diverse intonation of some metaphors.
    Jorge Luis Borges (1899–1986)
