Alabama Cooperative Extension System - Distinctive Programs

Distinctive Programs

The Alabama Cooperative Extension System’s six outreach concentrations are: agriculture; forestry and natural resources; urban and new nontraditional programs; family and individual well-being; community and economic development; and 4-H and youth development. These six areas of emphasis contain 14 unique priority programs. While many of these priority programs are reflected in Extension efforts in other states, Alabama also has unique programs due to its history.

Famous quotes containing the words distinctive and/or programs:

I consider my selfbeing ... that taste of myself, of I and me above and in all things, which is more distinctive than the taste of ale or alum, more distinctive than the smell of walnutleaf or camphor, and is incommunicable by any means to another man.
    Gerard Manley Hopkins (1844–1889)

Although good early childhood programs can benefit all children, they are not a quick fix for all of society’s ills—from crime in the streets to adolescent pregnancy, from school failure to unemployment. We must emphasize that good quality early childhood programs can help change the social and educational outcomes for many children, but they are not a panacea; they cannot ameliorate the effects of all harmful social and psychological environments.
    Barbara Bowman (20th century)
