- Designed arguably the biggest power-steering system in the world for Caterpillar/Tiger Engineering in Perth, Australia. It utilised hydraulic cylinders of 8" diameter. The vehicle was for work in open-cast coalmines Chile and Alaska. For the Alaska vehicle, heating tapes were fitted to the hydraulic cylinders against the extreme cold weather. The total system was specially designed by Melling and his team for Tiger Engineering.
