Arabic Verses, Transliteration and Translation


بِسۡمِ اللّٰہِ الرَّحۡمٰنِ الرَّحِیۡمِ

Bismillāhi r-raḥmāni r-raḥīm

In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.
Note: It should be remembered that it is not the written text/part/Ayah of this surah and hence it is never numbered. For convenience of those readers who are already believers, this is traditionally printed since it is commanded in the Qur'an to read/recite with the Name of Sustainer Lord, The Creator with the exception of the ninth Sura.

Arabic: 1 تَبَّتۡ یَدَاۤ اَبِیۡ لَهَبٍ وَّ تَبَّ ۝ ‎
Transliteration: Tabbat yad-a abī lahab-in wa-tabb
Translation by Muhammad Shameem, Mohammad Wali Raazi and Muhammad Taqi Usmani: Perish the two hands of Abu Lahab, and perish he!
Translation by Mohammed Marmaduke Pickthall: The power of Abu Lahab will perish, and he will perish.
Translation by Yusuf Ali: Perish the hands of the Father of Flame! Perish he!

Arabic: 2 مَاۤ اَغۡنٰی عَنۡهُ مَالُهٗ وَ مَا کَسَبَ ۝ ‎
Transliteration: Mā aghnā ʻanhu māl-uhu wa-mā kasab
Translation by Muhammad Shameem, Mohammad Wali Raazi and Muhammad Taqi Usmani: Neither his wealth availed him, nor what he earned.
Translation by Mohammed Marmaduke Pickthall: His wealth and gains will not exempt him.
Translation by Yusuf Ali: No profit to him from all his wealth, and all his gains!

Arabic: 3 سَیَصۡلٰی نَارًا ذَاتَ لَهَبٍۚ ۝ ‎
Transliteration: Sa-yaṣlā nār-an dhāt-a lahab
Translation by Muhammad Shameem, Mohammad Wali Raazi and Muhammad Taqi Usmani: He will soon enter a fire, full of flames,
Translation by Mohammed Marmaduke Pickthall: He will be plunged in flaming fire,
Translation by Yusuf Ali: Burnt soon will he be in a Fire of Blazing Flame!

Arabic: 4 وَامۡرَاَتُهٗ ؕ حَمَّالَةَ الۡحَطَبِۚ ۝ ‎
Transliteration: Wa-amrātuhu ḥammāla-ta l-ḥaṭab
Translation by Muhammad Shameem, Mohammad Wali Raazi and Muhammad Taqi Usmani: and his wife as well, the wicked carrier of firewood.
Translation by Mohammed Marmaduke Pickthall: And his wife, the wood carrier,
Translation by Yusuf Ali: His wife shall carry the (crackling) wood - As fuel!-

Arabic: 5 فِیۡ جِیۡدِهَا حَبۡلٌ مِّنۡ مَّسَدٍ ۝ ‎
Transliteration: Fī jīd-iha ḥabl-um min masad
Translation by Muhammad Shameem, Mohammad Wali Raazi and Muhammad Taqi Usmani: In her neck there is a rope of twisted palm-fibre.
Translation by Mohammed Marmaduke Pickthall: Will have upon her neck a halter of palm fibre.
Translation by Yusuf Ali: A twisted rope of palm-leaf fibre round her (own) neck!
