Al-Asr - Translation

Translation

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِِ

Bismillāhi r-raḥmāni r-raḥīm

Beginning is with Allah's personal name Ar-Rahman Who is The Fountain of Infinite Mercy. It should be remembered that it is not the written text/part/Ayah of سُورة and hence it is never numbered. For convenience of those readers who are already believers, this is traditionally printed since it is commanded in the Qur'an to read/recite with the Name of Sustainer Lord, The Creator with the exception of the ninth Sura.

Translation:

1. By the essence of all time.

2. Verily, all humankind is in deep loss.

3. Except those who believed (in the oneness of Allah) and performed good work and reminded each other of the truth and reminded each other to be patient.

Abdul Majid Daryabadi : But not those who believe and work righteous deeds, and enjoin upon each other the truth and enjoin upon each other steadfastness.

Dr. Mohsin : Except those who believe (in Islâmic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds, and recommend one another to the truth (i.e. order one another to perform all kinds of good deeds (Al-Ma'ruf) which Allâh has ordained, and abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds (Al-Munkar) which Allâh has forbidden), and recommend one another to patience (for the sufferings, harms, and injuries which one may encounter in Allâh's Cause during preaching His religion of Islâmic Monotheism or Jihad).

Marmaduke Pickthall : Save those who believe and do good works, and exhort one another to truth and exhort one another to endurance.

Abdullah Yusuf Ali : Except such as have Faith, and do righteous deeds, and (join together) in the mutual teaching of Truth, and of Patience and Constancy.

Famous quotes containing the word translation:

...it is better to marry than to be aflame with passion.
Bible: New Testament, 1 Corinthians 7:9.

King James translation reads, “It is better to marry than to burn.”

Whilst Marx turned the Hegelian dialectic outwards, making it an instrument with which he could interpret the facts of history and so arrive at an objective science which insists on the translation of theory into action, Kierkegaard, on the other hand, turned the same instruments inwards, for the examination of his own soul or psychology, arriving at a subjective philosophy which involved him in the deepest pessimism and despair of action.
    Sir Herbert Read (1893–1968)

Translation is the paradigm, the exemplar of all writing.... It is translation that demonstrates most vividly the yearning for transformation that underlies every act involving speech, that supremely human gift.
    Harry Mathews (b. 1930)
