Akoko - Industry

Industry

Predominant traditional occupations of the community include large scale farming and teaching. In contemporary time, military, policing and para-military is the common denominator of all Akoko communities. This is clearly displayed in the fact that every Akoko state constituency produced in the last 20 years at least a commissioner of police or equivalent in the other military and para-military (Customs, Immigration, Prisons, Federal Road Safety Corps etc.). Akoko also produced the most prominent Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps in the person of Dr. Olu Agunloye and the former Inspector General of Police Gabriel Sunday Ehindero.

Famous quotes containing the word industry:

I have never yet spoken from a public platform about women in industry that someone has not said, “But things are far better than they used to be.” I confess to impatience with persons who are satisfied with a dangerously slow tempo of progress for half of society in an age which requires a much faster tempo than in the days that “used to be.” Let us use what might be instead of what has been as our yardstick!
    Mary Barnett Gilson (1877–?)

Bankers, nepotists, contracts and talkies: on four fingers one may count the leeches which have sucked a young and vigorous industry into paresis.
    Dalton Trumbo (1905–1976)

The development of civilization and industry in general has always shown itself so active in the destruction of forests that everything that has been done for their conservation and production is completely insignificant in comparison.
    Karl Marx (1818–1883)
