Akbar Ali Khan (20 November 1899 – 1994) was governor of Uttar Pradesh in India from 1972 to 1974. He was a member of the Rajya Sabha for 18 years and he was deputy chairperson of the Rajya Sabha for 12 years. He was associated with Osmania University and was a member of the Senates of Aligarh Muslim University, Jamia Millia Islamia and Jawaharlal Nehru University. Later in 1957 he founded a Polytechnic in Hyderabad.
Nawab Akbar Ali Khan after his return from England as barrister at law married his first cousin Karamat Unissa Begum. His first son born in 1929, Mir Riazuth Ali Khan, went to Jagidar's College. After completing his education in Hyderabad in 1951 he travelled to London to study chartered accountancy. During his stay in London he met a beautiful Swiss girl, Ingeborg Lang. He took her to India and they married in Hyderabad in 1954. After one year a daughter was born to them, Vanessa Ali Khan. They all settled in Switzerland on Lake Leman where they collected Islamic Art.
