Aitutaki - Education

Education

Araura College is the only secondary school on Aitutaki. The school has the role of teaching approximately 200 students.

The island has three government schools and one church school: Amuri School, Araura Primary, Vaitau Primary School and Seventh Day Adventist School. There is also a private special character school which is the designated Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) school. Araura Primary is the larger of the primary school catering for the mostly populated part of the island and Vaitau Primary caters mostly for the Vaipae and Tautu villages. Amuri School caters for Amuri and Ureia villages. SDA Schol caters for the Seventh Day Adventist children on the island.

All schools follow the New Zealand Curriculum framework as most of the young people will eventually migrate to New Zealand to study at University or Polytechnics.

Famous quotes containing the word education:

In that reconciling of God and Mammon which Mrs. Grantly had carried on so successfully in the education of her daughter, the organ had not been required, and had become withered, if not defunct, through want of use.
    Anthony Trollope (1815–1882)

There used to be housekeepers with more energy than sense—the everlasting scrubber; the over-neat woman. Since the better education of woman has come to stay, this type of woman has disappeared almost, if not entirely.
    Caroline Nichols Churchill (1833–?)
