Afriqiyah Airways - Suspended Operations

Suspended Operations

As a consequence of the Libyan civil war and the resulting no-fly zone over the country enforced by NATO in accordance with the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1973, all flight operations by Afriqiyah Airways were terminated on 17 March 2011.

Point 17 of the United Nations resolution specifically banned flights from members of the United Nations of aircraft registered in Libya. This was rescinded when Afriqiyah Airways was officially unsanctioned on 22 September 2011, when Libyan-registered aircraft were again permitted to enter EU airspace. This resulted in the announcement that Afriqiyah Airways expected to resume flights between Tripoli and London by the end of the year (subject to the issue of the correct air transport and security permits) using A320 equipment. However, flights did not resume until summer 2012.

Famous quotes containing the words suspended and/or operations:

The way in which men cling to old institutions after the life has departed out of them, and out of themselves, reminds me of those monkeys which cling by their tails—aye, whose tails contract about the limbs, even the dead limbs, of the forest, and they hang suspended beyond the hunter’s reach long after they are dead. It is of no use to argue with such men. They have not an apprehensive intellect, but merely, as it were a prehensile tail.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Plot, rules, nor even poetry, are not half so great beauties in tragedy or comedy as a just imitation of nature, of character, of the passions and their operations in diversified situations.
    Horace Walpole (1717–1797)
