- A strand of African nationalism during the activism against apartheid in South Africa particularly associated with the Pan Africanist Congress
- A literary theory developed by author and critic Toni Morrison which holds that White authors often use images of blackness and Black people to explore fears and desires which are socially unacceptable. She outlines the theory in her book Playing In the Dark.
