Through this NGO Savory introduced his new discoveries about both the cause of desertification and how to reverse it using increased numbers of properly managed livestock, to an increasingly receptive audience. Savory and Butterfield wrote a book about the work in 1988 (revised in 1999): Holistic Management: A New Decision Making Framework (Island Press: Washington, DC).
