Adventure Rock

Adventure Rock (previously known as CBBC World) was a virtual online world for children based on Ketnetkick, and created by the BBC in association with Ketnet, owned and operated by the Vlaamse Radio- en Televisieomroep, Flanders' public broadcaster. The game was originally aimed at the Belgian market, but was redeveloped for a UK audience of children aged between 6-12 years old. The emphasis on the system was on safety and responsibility, with no chatrooms or the financial aspects available in other online worlds such as Second Life.

Controller of CBBC Richard Deverell said:

is a good example of the way we need to go. The thing that interests me is that children are at the vanguard. And that is where we are taking Children's BBC.

Famous quotes containing the words adventure and/or rock:

Being human signifies, for each one of us, belonging to a class, a society, a country, a continent and a civilization; and for us European earth-dwellers, the adventure played out in the heart of the New World signifies in the first place that it was not our world and that we bear responsibility for the crime of its destruction.
    Claude Lévi-Strauss (b. 1908)

When the rock was hid by the surges’ swell,
The mariners heard the warning bell,
And then they knew the perilous rock,
And bless’d the Abbot of Aberbrothok.
    Robert Southey (1774–1843)
