Adelaide Avenue

Adelaide Avenue is a limited-access road in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory.

The road connects Yarralumla with the Parliament House area. Adelaide Avenue is a popular tourist route, since Parliament house, the residence of the Australian Prime Minister, and the Royal Australian Mint, can be seen from it.

The far right lane was used as a bus lane until December 2006, but due to the Gungahlin Drive Extension it was changed to a T2 transit lane. The T2 lane was reverted back to a bus lane on 14 November 2011 after the completion of the Gungahlin Drive Extension. However a week after the lane was turned back to a bus lane the ACT Liberals and the ACT Greens overturned the decision, resulting the lane to change to a T2 lane despite the wishes of the Labor party and the Transport Workers Union.

Famous quotes containing the word avenue:

Play is a major avenue for learning to manage anxiety. It gives the child a safe space where she can experiment at will, suspending the rules and constraints of physical and social reality. In play, the child becomes master rather than subject.... Play allows the child to transcend passivity and to become the active doer of what happens around her.
    Alicia F. Lieberman (20th century)
