Controversies

On December 13,2011, Adam Vaughan apologized after insulting the tenants of Ward 2 by referring to it as an "Industrial Park"

In a February 2, 2012 Toronto Sun, Ossie Pavao, owner of Cafe Acoreana in the Kensington Market accused Vaughan of playing favourites while ignoring local businesses. Pavao believes that Kensington market is in decline, is difficult to get to and does not have enough parking, and City Council is indifferent. He also objects to a Vaughan-sponsored plan to spend $500,000 on an upgrade of Bellevue Square Park. "What hurts the most is you have a federal government that appreciates the heritage and history of this site, but you get a city council that just ignores it."

On March 6, 2012, Adam Vaughan submitted a letter of apology after being heard saying "There go the Blackshirts" in reference to Councillor Doug Ford's assistant Amin Massoudi. Massoudi said Vaughan’s “insult” was particularly disturbing because his own parents left Iran in the 1970s to “escape the oppressive and violent regime of the Islamic Republic” and he still has family members that remain in Iran.

In 2009 Vaughan was named as a co-defendant (along with the city of Toronto) in a damages suit for $11 million issued by owners of a downtown bar; the bar owners claiming that Vaughan conspired with city officials to have the bar shut down.
