Participation in Wood-Ljungdahl Pathway
Acetyl—CoA synthetase also participates in the Wood-Ljungdahl Pathway, which fixes anaerobic CO2. The Wood-Ljungdahl Pathway consists of an eastern branch, which all organisms use in one-carbon metabolism, and a western branch, which only anaerobes use for fixing carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide. To be specific, ACS combines carbon monoxide and a methyl group to produce acetyl-CoA at a nickel-containing active site.

Famous quotes containing the words participation in and/or pathway:
“Productive collaborations between family and school, therefore, will demand that parents and teachers recognize the critical importance of each others participation in the life of the child. This mutuality of knowledge, understanding, and empathy comes not only with a recognition of the child as the central purpose for the collaboration but also with a recognition of the need to maintain roles and relationships with children that are comprehensive, dynamic, and differentiated.”
—Sara Lawrence Lightfoot (20th century)
“And open field, through which the pathway wound,
And homeward led my steps. Magnificent
The morning rose, in memorable pomp,
Glorious as eer I had beheldin front,
The sea lay laughing at a distance; near,
The solid mountains shone, bright as the clouds,
Grain-tinctured, drenched in empyrean light;”
—William Wordsworth (17701850)
