ACE Inhibitors Drug Design

The discovery of an orally inactive peptide from snake venom established the important role of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors in regulating blood pressure. This led to the development of Captopril, the first ACE inhibitor. When the adverse effects of Captopril became apparent new derivates were designed. Then after the discovery of two active sites of ACE: N-domain and C-domain, the development of domain specific ACE inhibitors began.

Famous quotes containing the words ace, drug and/or design:

I do not object to Gladstone’s always having the ace of trumps up his sleeve, but only to his pretence that God had put it there.
    Henry Labouchere (1831–1912)

Whoever grows angry amid troubles applies a drug worse than the disease and is a physician unskilled about misfortunes.
    Sophocles (497–406/5 B.C.)

The reason American cars don’t sell anymore is that they have forgotten how to design the American Dream. What does it matter if you buy a car today or six months from now, because cars are not beautiful. That’s why the American auto industry is in trouble: no design, no desire.
    Karl Lagerfeld (b. 1938)
