Academia Pomeroy Covered Bridge

The Academia Pomeroy Covered Bridge at 278-foot-long (85 m) (portal to portal) is the longest remaining covered bridge in Pennsylvania.

Built in 1902, this single-lane, double-span wooden covered bridge crosses Tuscarora Creek between Spruce Hill and Beale Townships, in Juniata County. Its design is based on the Burr Truss developed by Theodore Burr who was the preeminent bridge architect and builder of his time. Owned by the Juniata County Historical Society, located in Mifflintown, since 1962.

It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

Famous quotes containing the words covered and/or bridge:

The tracks of moose, more or less recent, to speak literally, covered every square rod on the sides of the mountain; and these animals are probably more numerous there now than ever before, being driven into this wilderness, from all sides, by the settlements.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

    I see four nuns
who sit like a bridge club,
    their faces poked out
    from under their habits,
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)
