Abu Bakr (other transliterations include Abu Bakar, Abubakar or Abu Bekr) was one of the companions or sahaba of Muhammad and the first Caliph of Islam. His real name was Abdullah or Abul-Kaaba and Abu Bakr was his kunya. In his childhood, he was very fond of the camels and for this he earned the nickname Abu Bakr meaning "Father of the foul of the camel".

In the Muslim world, this name is very popular since it was the name of one of the sahabas of Muhammad.
