Abhinav Bharat Society (Young India Society) was a secret society founded by Vinayak Damodar Savarkar in 1904. Initially founded at Nasik while still a student Fergusson College at Pune, the society developed from an organisation called Mitra Mela. In 1906, Savarkar, during his stay at India House in London, extended the organisation, which became a meeting ground for radical Indian nationalists. Some cite influences of Mazzini's Young Italy in the organisation.
Famous quotes containing the word society:
“The political core of any movement for freedom in the society has to have the political imperative to protect free speech.”
