Abercromby Square

Abercromby Square is a square at the heart of the University of Liverpool, England. It is bordered by Oxford Road to the North. It is named after General Sir Ralph Abercromby, commander of the British Army in Egypt, who was killed at the Battle of Alexandria in 1801.

Abercromby Square Gardens occupy the centre of the square.

Famous quotes containing the word square:

O for a man who is a man, and, as my neighbor says, has a bone in his back which you cannot pass your hand through! Our statistics are at fault: the population has been returned too large. How many men are there to a square thousand miles in this country? Hardly one.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
