Abdul Rahman Al Ghafiqi - Battle of Toulouse

Battle of Toulouse

Abdul Rahman involved himself on the Battle of Toulouse, where Al Samh ibn Malik was killed in 721 (102 A.H.) by the forces of Duke Odo of Aquitaine. After the severe defeat, he fled south along with other commanders and troops, and took over the command of Eastern Andalus. He was briefly relieved of his command, when 'Anbasa ibn Suhaym Al-Kalbi was appointed in 721 (103 AH). After 'Anbasa was killed in battle in 726 (107 AH) in Gaul, several successive commanders were put in place, none of whom lasted very long.

Famous quotes containing the word battle:

The militancy of men, through all the centuries, has drenched the world with blood, and for these deeds of horror and destruction men have been rewarded with monuments, with great songs and epics. The militancy of women has harmed no human life save the lives of those who fought the battle of righteousness. Time alone will reveal what reward will be allotted to women.
    Emmeline Pankhurst (1858–1928)
