Success necessarily means larger responsibilities, and responsibilities mean many friends.
    Franklin D. Roosevelt (1882–1945)

A college of wit-crackers cannot flout me out of my humor. Dost thou think I care for a satire or an epigram?
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

I doubt that I would have taken so many leaps in my own writing or been as clear about my feminist and political commitments if I had not been anointed as early as I was.
