AA Region IV

AA Region IV is one of the four AA regions in the Virginia High School League. It is made up of three districts: the AA Piedmont District, the AA River Ridge District, and the AA Southwest District.

The members of Region IV are located in Southwest Virginia. It is the smallest region in terms of membership in AA due to many of its prior members losing enrollment and dropping into Group A. Gate City High School, Lebanon High School, John S. Battle High School, Radford High School, Giles High School, and George Wythe High School, Graham High School (Bluefield, Virginia)|Graham High School]] are some of the schools that have dropped in classification since the 1980s.

In Henry County, Virginia, Laurel Park High School and Fieldale-Collinsville High School closed after the 2001-2002 school year, with their student populations consolidated into Magna Vista and Bassett High Schools. Because of this, in 2007, there was a considerable realignment among AA districts to different regions, including the AA River Ridge District moving into Region IV from Region III. The Piedmont District had moved from Region III during the 1990s. The AA Highlands District was also disbanded in 2007 when former members dropped to Group A and the remaining Group AA schools moved into the Southwest District.

In that region there were shepherds living in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.
