A Larum

A Larum is the first full-length album by London-based folk rock band Johnny Flynn & The Sussex Wit, although it was released under the name of Johnny Flynn alone. It was released on May 26, 2008 in the UK, and July 29, 2008 in the US. The song "Tickle Me Pink" was featured as iTunes free single of the week. The title of the album, according to Johnny Flynn, is the Middle English word for "alarm," used in Shakespeare's manuscripts to signify a disturbance occurring offstage among other things. It has been claimed, however, that the album title comes from an anagram of 'Laura M', in reference to his good friend and folk singer Laura Marling, though he personally denies this claim. A Larum has been nominated for the Xfm New Music Award (2009) and was also named as the 37th best album of 2008 by Paste Magazine. On April 23, 2010, Cartoonist David Rees listened to the single "The Box" 89 times in a row, in a successful attempt to drive the average price per listen down to one cent.
