2010 United States Figure Skating Championships

The 2010 United States Figure Skating Championships were a national championship to determine the national rankings of the United States in the 2009–2010 figure skating season. The event was among the criteria used to select the U.S. teams for the 2010 World, World Junior, Four Continents Championships, and the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Skaters competed in four disciplines – men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing – across three levels: senior, junior, and novice. Medals were awarded in four colors: gold (first), silver (second), bronze (third), and pewter (fourth).

Organized by U.S. Figure Skating with AT&T as the title sponsor, the 2010 Championships took place between January 14 and January 24 in Spokane, Washington at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena.

The Olympics were to begin 18 days after the end of the U.S. Championships. The senior-level Championship events were therefore spread out over two weekends to allow the skaters approximately four weeks between the end of their event and the start of the corresponding Olympic competition.

Famous quotes containing the words united, states, figure and/or skating:

The heroes of the world community are not those who withdraw when difficulties ensue, not those who can envision neither the prospect of success nor the consequence of failure—but those who stand the heat of battle, the fight for world peace through the United Nations.
    Hubert H. Humphrey (1911–1978)

The corporate grip on opinion in the United States is one of the wonders of the Western World. No First World country has ever managed to eliminate so entirely from its media all objectivity—much less dissent.
    Gore Vidal (b. 1925)

Parenthood has really changed for me. It’s much more than taking care of my son; more than saying yes and no. Now I have to figure out what I think and what I know so that I can answer his questions and explain things to him.
—Anonymous Parent. As quoted in Between Generations by Ellen Galinsky, ch. 4 (1981)

Good writing is a kind of skating which carries off the performer where he would not go, and is only right admirable when to all its beauty and speed a subserviency to the will, like that of walking, is added.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
