2008 UCLA Bruins Football Team
The UCLA Bruins football team (Motto: Then ... Now ... Forever) opened the 2008 campaign by playing its first game at home against Tennessee under new head coach Rick Neuheisel, at 5:00 p.m. at the Rose Bowl stadium in Pasadena, California. The Bruins played six of the Top 25 teams in the 2007 final Associated Press rankings, with eight opponents played in last season's bowl games. More than half of the opponents had won nine or more games during the 2007 season.
The Bruins had seven home games and five away games this season, UCLA's 90th season in college football and 27th season at the Rose Bowl. Since moving to the Rose Bowl, the Bruins had a 109-46-2 record, winning 70% (prior to this season).
On Monday, August 19, Neuheisel named Kevin Craft (#3) as starting quarterback for the first game of the season. Both Ben Olson (#7) and Patrick Cowan (#12) were injured in pre-season practices. Other available quarterbacks were Chris Forcier (#8), Osaar Rasshan (#11), and Nick Crissman (#18).
Alterraun Verner and Aaron Perez were named to the 2008 Pacific-10 Conference All-Academic football team. Verner majors in mathematics and Perez is a sociology major. Sophomore place kicker Kai Forbath was named to Associated Press' All-America third team.

Famous quotes containing the words football team, football and/or team:
“...Im not money hungry.... People who are rich want to be richer, but whats the difference? You cant take it with you. The toys get different, thats all. The rich guys buy a football team, the poor guys buy a football. Its all relative.”
—Martina Navratilova (b. 1956)
“People stress the violence. Thats the smallest part of it. Football is brutal only from a distance. In the middle of it theres a calm, a tranquility. The players accept pain. Theres a sense of order even at the end of a running play with bodies stewn everywhere. When the systems interlock, theres a satisfaction to the game that cant be duplicated. Theres a harmony.”
—Don Delillo (b. 1926)
“Romeo. I dreamt a dream tonight.
Mercutio. And so did I.
Romeo. Well, what was yours?
Mercutio. That dreamers often lie.
Romeo. In bed asleep, while they do dream things true.
Mercutio. O then I see Queen Mab hath been with you.
She is the fairies midwife, and she comes
In shape no bigger than an agate stone
On the forefinger of an alderman,
Drawn with a team of little atomi
Over mens noses as they lie asleep.”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
